Understanding and Acknowledging ‘Section 508’

We live in a world of technology that grows in leaps and bounds; information is constantly distributed throughout various forms of the media. Sometimes, we fail to notice significant pieces of information; or, we simply take technology for granted. That is where we, at International Code Design Inc., come into the picture. Our services bring a distinct connection between different media platforms and communication.

International Code Design Inc. helps businesses and government agencies implement and comply with the regulations of Section 508 of the ‘Rehabilitation Act’. The ‘Rehabilitation Act’ was recognized and passed as a federal law in 1973. This law enforces and prohibits discrimination towards disability in programs operated by federal agencies. It is important that each and every individual have the right to equal access to information and through multiple modes of communication in our society. In 1998, Congress amended the ‘Rehabilitation Act of 1973’ into a specific section with a focus on equivalent access for all, including individuals with disabilities, for electronic and information technology conducted by Federal agencies.

The purpose of Section 508 is to ensure that there is communications access to the various areas of technology. We all want to be able to understand information as it is presented to us, with undiluted access. As mentioned, with the fast-growing world of technology we live in today, there are certain things each individual wouldn’t want to miss out on. This is where Section 508 comes into the picture - it acts on eliminating barriers in electronic and information technology in order to be accessible to all of the public. For a clearer understanding on how Section 508 functions, if a certain organization decides on using a sort of multimedia (for example, a video) for communication, it has to be determined whether it is necessary for a transcript or captions to be added.

In keeping with International Code Design Inc.’s mission, we are also committed to making communication accessible to all of the public, including individuals with disabilities. With our credible knowledge of technology and networking, we specialize in technology consulting and solution services for government, industry, and non-profit organizations. We understand the impact of the Section 508 law and its influence on technology; we help companies implement the law and regulations. International Code Design Inc. supports the opportunity of equal access to technology and communication.
